Legal
Privacy Policy
This policy explains what happens to information about you when you visit GenGuru. It describes how the site actually works today. In this policy, "GenGuru", "we" and "us" mean the person who runs this website, and "you" means anyone who visits it.
The short version
- GenGuru has no accounts, no sign-up, no comment boxes and no forms.
- We do not set cookies, run analytics or show ads.
- Two outside parties see your visit for technical reasons: our hosting provider, which serves the pages, and Google, which serves the web fonts.
- If you email us, we receive what you choose to send, and use it only to reply.
Who is responsible
GenGuru is a free, unofficial fan site run by an individual as a hobby. That person is responsible for this site and this policy. You can reach them at genguru@miti99.com.
What we collect
GenGuru is a static website: every page is a plain file that is the same for every visitor. There is no database behind it and no code on our side that records who you are. We do not ask for your name, email address or any other details in order to read the site.
The only personal data that reaches us directly is what you send us by email. The rest of this policy covers the technical data that outside services handle when your browser loads the site.
Hosting and server logs
Like any website, GenGuru is served by a hosting provider. When your browser requests a page, the provider's servers may record standard technical details about the request, such as:
- your IP address;
- the date and time of the request;
- the page or file requested;
- your browser's user agent (its name, version and operating system);
- the referring page, if your browser sends one.
These logs exist to deliver the site, keep it working and protect it from abuse. They are kept and handled under our hosting provider's own policies. We do not use them to profile visitors, and we do not combine them with any other information.
Web fonts from Google
The site's typefaces are loaded from Google Fonts. To display them, your browser connects to
fonts.googleapis.com and fonts.gstatic.com. As with any request on the
internet, this shares your IP address and your browser's user agent with Google, and Google may
log those requests. Google describes how it handles this data in the
Google Privacy Policy
and the Google Fonts privacy FAQ.
If you would rather not contact Google, you can block those two domains with a content blocker. The site still works; it simply falls back to your device's own fonts.
Cookies and tracking
GenGuru does not set any cookies and does not store anything in your browser's local storage. The site runs no JavaScript of its own, and it includes no analytics, advertising, tracking pixels, social media widgets or embedded videos. Because there is nothing to consent to, you will not see a cookie banner.
If we ever add something that changes this, we will update this policy first and, where the law requires it, ask for your consent before it runs.
When you email us
If you write to genguru@miti99.com, we receive your email address, your message, and anything else you include, such as your name or attachments. Your email provider and ours also handle the message as part of delivering it.
We use what you send only to read and answer your message, for example to fix a mistake you have reported or to deal with a rights request. We do not add you to a mailing list, and we do not sell, rent or share your message with anyone, unless the law requires us to.
Links to other sites
Some pages link to other websites. Once you follow a link, you are on a site we do not run, and its own privacy policy applies. We are not responsible for how other sites handle your data.
How long data is kept
- Emails: we keep a conversation only as long as we need it to deal with your message, then delete it. You can ask us to delete it sooner.
- Server logs: kept for the period set by our hosting provider.
- Font requests: handled under Google's own retention rules, described in the policies linked above.
Children
GenGuru is a general-interest site and is not aimed at children under 13, or under the minimum age for giving consent to data processing where you live. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has emailed us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Your choices and rights
Depending on where you live, data protection law may give you the right to ask what personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, to object to how it is used, or to complain to your local data protection authority. In practice, the only personal data we hold is email you have sent us, and we will honour these requests for it whether or not a law requires us to.
To make a request, email genguru@miti99.com. For server logs or font requests, the relevant provider holds the data, so we may need to point you to them.
Changes to this policy
If the way the site works changes, for example if we add a new service, we will update this page and the "Last updated" date at the top. We will not start a new kind of data collection without first describing it here.
